this crazy thing called life

Where do I even begin?

So many things have been happening. I got a new job. Which is better and worse than my last one. And my husband works with me, which is one of the better parts. So we have been working our little butts off trying to make enough money to eat. I also have a wedding to shoot this week, but in order to go down to the wedding I needed car insurance since my husbands dad decided to stop paying for it and didn't even tell us for 2 weeks after he cancelled it. So we got car insurance today! (I feel so grown up) then Nick has been so busy with finals and we have been running everywhere to get things for presentations and final projects and I have helped him with the artsy side of things so I feel like I have been doing most of his project, but that's okay. So now he is on his last few days of school so you would think we could relax. NOPE! I have that wedding to shoot this week and I need to get the apartment pretty clean so that when we go to move out next week it will be easier to clean if details are already done! Then the day we move in we also have to leave to go down to Utah with my family for a bridal shower and then get ready to put on a wedding. So we are gonna be busy busy busy...

I just want to pause and take a breather. The only good thing about going down to Utah for that time is not only do I get to see my brother get married, but also, We will be able to have family time! Which is very needed! We spend so much time cooped up in this apartment and this little town that getting out of here is nice and having family around is even nicer!

We Are Moving!

That is right folks! We are moving! We are staying in our complex, but we are just moving up to a bigger apartment. The complex we are staying at has furnished studio apartments. They are nice and also new, but the one we have is just a little small for us. I have some pictures to show you what I am talking about, but we will be moving the first of August! So Nick just needs to finish out this semester and then we will be in a larger apartment! Thank goodness!

Now I don't want to say anything bad about the complex, because honestly, they are awesome! The only thing that really drives me crazy is the kitchen! I love to cook and bake and just experiment in the kitchen so having a tiny kitchen is not cutting it for me. So here are some pictures of the apartment we are staying in now. It is considered a "Pocket Kitchen"

So as you can see, it is very (and I mean VERY) crowded. It is workable, but imagine trying to make dinner in here. Even if its super simple like pasta, it is still so frustrating to have NO counter space to put things on.

Also the living room situation can be odd at times. When you have people over, you have no choice, but to have them sit on the couch and you sit on the bed. That can be kind of weird sometimes..

So now here are some pictures of the new apartment and some things I am excited about! This is considered a "One Bedroom"

I am going to feel so much better in here. To have my clothes separate from my living area is going to be such a blessing! I am so excited to move I wish I could move this weekend! My goal was to move into a larger apartment by August so that we would have a month to completely settle in before school starts up again, and we did it! I am so excited!

At the moment Nick has a 8:00am class so he gets up around 6:30am and he can't get up and get ready without waking me up. This way in the mornings, and even at night, one person can still get their sleep while the other one is doing homework or going to school! It will be so much more convenient! I am so EXCITED!

Quite some time

Well, it has been quite some time since I have written on this blog! Crazy things have been happening! All of my time and energy has been sucked into getting my photography business up and running. My husband and I are working to get things in place before I officially "launch" I guess. I am really excited to share all of my pictures and things that have been going on with emma dorsett photography!

Gratitude

**Just as a disclaimer, I am changing the names in this story and if anyone figures out who it is about, I apologize if it offends you in any way. It just opened my eyes to a few things**

So tonight, Nick and I enjoyed a movie night with some close friends of ours. Rachel and Andrew. Rachel was my roommate and Andrew is Nicks friend who he has known for quite sometime. So we were watching the move and Rachel was working on some Spanish homework. Then at the end of the movie Rachel was reading it out loud for Andrew to time it and see how long it was, but Andrew was being a little difficult, in my opinion.

Rachel would read something maybe five or six words maximum and Andrew would one: correct her pronunciation. Two: Say something along the lines of "that's not how you say that." Three: say "this isn't that hard" or four: "you aren't making any sense."

This went on. She would spit out a few words and then came the correction and/ or rude comment. This happened over and over again. Then the part that pissed me off the most was that Rachel was obviously getting frustrated...

You know the thing that most girls do when they get frustrated? They put their hands to their head and usually rub their forehead harshly out of frustration?

Ya she did that and every time she would do that Andrew would say "STOP!" or "stop touching your face" "you don't need to so that" "Rachel, stop touching your face like that" "why are you doing that. Just stop it"

Like WHAT! Just let her be frustrated! Anyway,

The point of that was to say how grateful I am to have a husband who loves me. Now, we fight. Sometimes over stupid things that don't really matter, but I am grateful that he has never talked to me like this, Andrew was talking to Rachel as if she was stupid or something. He wasn't letting her learn my trial and error. She would say something wrong and immediately tell her how wrong it was. He should have let her do her assignment and then afterwards made a few suggestions on things she may want to do differently. I don't know, I'm sure they were just having a moment, but it made it really awkward for a bit because this went on for a half an hour before Rachel got so frustrated she just closed her laptop and said she needed to go home. I am grateful that my husband doesn't speak to me like that and he values my efforts and if I happen to do something wrong he simply makes a suggestion on how to do it better, rather than insult my intelligence. And I am glad that I don't have to speak Spanish.... just saying...

Day 14 Thoughts

Today is day number fourteen of Nick and I living in our apartment in Rexburg.
So in the last two weeks we have......

been to the grocery store for what feels like a million times,

we have learned not to keep wet things in the bathroom (it starts to stink),

we have enjoyed the available hot tub and pool,

we have cooked a lot of stir fry,

I got a job,

we realized how annoying laundry can be when it's not in your apartment,

we have met both of our neighbors (the loud ones and the quiet ones... I like the quiet ones more... for multiple reasons.),

we realized how easy cereal is to eat (and how little mess it makes),

we went to church and finally got to the right ward... eventually,

we found out a lot of married couples never go to church,

we saw lots of babies at church and fell in love with them (* but no. no babies any time soon!!!*),

we have heard an ungodly amount of one direction- at 1 o'clock in the morning, I might add- thanks to our noisy neighbors (that's one reason I like the other ones better),

we bought a calendar to keep our schedules straight,

Nick has sold his body for money multiple times (no... not that... he was donating plasma),

and we have seen how great it is to have our own place and be able to actually live on our own!

19 and Married

I hate the questions and comments I got.

"Why are you doing this? You have your whole life ahead of you."
"You are still a teenager, what do you know about marriage?"
"You have your whole life to get married."
"Why do you want to be tied down?"

and then there was the worst

"wow... marriage!... congratulations!..."

They tried to be happy for me, but I could see the judgement behind their eyes and hear the questioning in their voice.

I just have a few things to say to those questions.

I do have my whole life ahead of me. And I feel to fortunate that I get to spend it with someone whom I love and adore.

I am a teenager and I may not know a lot about marriage, but I want to learn how to have a successful relationship early so I don't have to experience years and years of heart break. And not only do I want to learn, but I want to learn with my best friend.

I do have my whole life to get married, so why not now? I want my whole life to be with the one I love.

I am not tied down. If you think marrying your best friend ties you down, then you have some other issues you need to work on.

------

Now, I will be frank with you. I did give up a lot when I got married.

I gave up my time. I gave up my money. I gave up my freedom to do what I want when I want. I gave up my body. I gave up every last part of myself.

But that does not compare to what I gained.

I got someone who is committed to me forever. I get to have a sleepover with my best friend every night. I got a man who loves me. I get the opportunity to start building a healthy relationship  for my future family. I will get to have children. I get to depend on someone I love

I would not take back anything. I love living with my best friend and I am so glad that I chose to get married. I will forever be grateful for my best friend.

I got a job!

So... I got a job! I am pretty excited! Its gonna be long hours and long days, but I will be okay! I will be working Monday through Friday noon to eight o'clock PM... although I get off Saturday and Sunday being a full time employee! So that is good! Nick applied for the same job (but part time) today so hopefully he will hear back soon! I am so excited to be starting our lives together! I feel so grown up! We even bought a big calendar for our wall today so that we can keep track of schedules!
